It is my understanding that the council will be meeting in the coming days and weeks to discuss the renovation of Sprinker Recreation Center. I’m strongly urging you and your fellow council members to continue to support renovations at Sprinker Recreation Center and to develop a tax-free solution to funding the essential repairs and upgrades needed for Sprinker Recreation Center.

As a voting constituent in your district I commend you, your fellow council members and Executive McCarthy for your support of funding the design and development plan for the renovation of Sprinker. It is time now to take the next step in achieving the plans that have been put in place and supported by yourself and the council most recently. Anything other than your full support would certainly be a shame as this could mean shelving the plans for another 10 years while Sprinker continues to remain in dire need of capital upgrades. I’m sure you are aware that construction costs are at an all-time low. Delay and further deliberation on the fate of Sprinker Recreation Center would be unacceptable and irresponsible.

With over 55% of Pierce County’s registered recreation users participating in programs at SRC there is no doubt that the facility is well used and well loved. As stewards of the county’s parks and facilities I’m looking to you and your colleagues to protect this valuable asset that provides such opportunity to the constituents of Pierce County.
