Please reconsider your decision to close Sprinker! Pierce County is fast becoming a recreational wasteland. We lost Spanaway Speedway in 2004 to housing (still not completely developed.) We recently lost a golf course on 94th Ave. to housing. Brookdale Golf Course is in limbo, threatened with closing for more housing. How much more housing do we need in this county, at the cost of recreation? Pretty soon there will be nowhere for people to take their children for some good, old-fashioned fun.

It is appalling the park funds have apparently been misused for some 30years; buildings require maintenance, surely some of the monies made from admission to Sprinker Recreational Center could have been utilized for maintenance including a new roof and general repairs and renovations. It would seem to be another avenue of revenue to assist with these repairs could come from the yearly Fantasy Lights venue, which is very popular and lucrative, not only the admission to the show but the monies that are donated by local businesses should more than pay for expenses to provide this show. The park department continues to make poor choices, as someone so intelligently decided Lake Spanaway Park should be closed 3-4 days a week during the busy Summer season: as they are now charging people to park, wouldn't that seem like a reasonable way to make more money, not to mention the poor decision to close restroom facilities while allowing foot traffic; again, not a lot of thought going into that decision, just how much money do you think it will take to clean up the lake (which already has problems) after people pee and poop in the bushes next to the lake; now it won't only be duck poop causing swimmer's itch...If we had a more transparent system we would be able to find out exactly who needs to be replaced in our local government!! It is my hope someone will come to their senses, to keep our community venues open,we have not had a 30 year long recession, so there is no excuse for these actions and lack of action!!

Thank you for your support in keeping Sprinker Recreation Center open. With this decision the council has shown support for the Pierce County community that visits the facility every year.
Frequently in the news there have been stories about large construction jobs that either were completed at a lower cost than the bid or the bids have been lower than expected. I would think this is the perfect time to move forward with this project in order to prevent any rise in costs and stay within the forecasted budget. Also I have heard the date to close Sprinker is still in effect for Oct. 31. I would ask that this date be extended until such time as the repairs are underway.
Thank you,
Peggy Leach

Council members-
I was present at Tuesdays Council meeting and I must admit I was holding my breath until after the vote on R2010-102. Thank you all so much for passing this resolution. Your thoughtful questions and comments were appreciated. Knowing that you realize the importance of Sprinker to the citizens of Pierce County means a lot. I know that there is still more work ahead but your support makes it possible. I hope you will find the time to visit Sprinker often to see the fruits of your labor. Remember, tennis is a lifelong sport, you are never too old to start. Thank you again. Sue Hilsendeger
